๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 1. Revolutionary Joint Forces Capture Thai-Myanmar Border Thee Khee Base

May 9

The Thee Khee military base, a strategic outpost of the military council near the Thai-Myanmar border, has been seized by revolutionary joint forces at around 9:00 AM on May 9, according to resistance fighters involved in the operation.

Located within the Tha Hton Township of Tanintharyi Region, the Thee Khee base had been under siege by a coalition of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and allied People’s Defense Forces since late April. The base was successfully captured earlier this morning.

The Federal Force for Destruction (FFD), a combat and drone unit, confirmed the seizure through the release of video documentation.

As clearance operations are currently underway in the area, details regarding captured prisoners, casualties, or confiscated arms and ammunition have not yet been verified, according to the revolutionary forces.

The assault on the Thee Khee base, which is located in Military Region 4 under the command of the Karen National Union (KNU)/KNLA, was led by the KNU/KNLA in coordination with allied units including the FFD Combat and Drone Unit, KNLA (Taw Htoo) Drone Unit, Military Region 4 Drone Unit, and TPLF Drone Unit.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 2. Four Civilians, Including a 5-Year-Old Child, Killed by Junta Shelling in Nawnghkio Despite Ceasefire Extension

May 9

Four civilians, including a five-year-old child, were killed and seven others injured when the military council, despite extending a ceasefire by one month, launched heavy artillery strikes in Nawnghkio Township, according to the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA).

On May 8, junta artillery Battalion 902 reportedly shelled Tharyet Cho Village in Nawnghkio Township using heavy weapons. The attack occurred during a wedding celebration, killing four civilians—including a child—and injuring seven others due to shrapnel.

Though the junta announced a ceasefire extension until May 31, it continues military offensives in Ta’ang territory using artillery, drone strikes, and air raids.

At approximately 9:30 AM on May 8, Battalion 902 deployed two bombs via drones and shelled the village 16 times with heavy weapons, targeting areas where TNLA forces were present, which led to clashes near Tharyet Cho Village around noon.

In a subsequent attack around 1:00 PM, drones dropped two more bombs on Yar Pyin Village, accompanied by two rounds of shelling, leading to another clash around 3:00 PM in the vicinity.

Furthermore, at around 4:00 PM, the junta launched eight aerial bombs, five chemical gas bombs, and 31 artillery shells as it advanced toward Naung Talin Village. Clashes broke out again around 6:00 PM between junta forces and the TNLA (PSLF/TNLA) units near Naung Talin.

In addition, junta troops currently stationed at Te Khaw Village dropped a chemical gas bomb on Ommate Village via drone. They also launched 18 artillery rounds and six chemical gas bombs toward Taung Hla Village, where TNLA forces were reported to be operating.

Despite a ceasefire extension announced on May 1 by three allied resistance forces to allow for humanitarian operations supporting earthquake-affected civilians, the junta continues to breach the agreement through repeated attacks.

Given the persistent military offensives, the TNLA's Public Information Department has urged civilians to remain vigilant and follow protective measures against aerial assaults.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 3. Airstrike on Refugee Shelter Monastery in Banmaw Kills at Least 15, Injures Over 30

May 9

At least 15 internally displaced civilians were killed and more than 30 injured after the military junta carried out an airstrike on Kan Nar Yate Sha Monastery, a shelter for refugees in Banmaw (Bhamo) town, according to Banmaw Scout Team.

The airstrike was conducted by a junta fighter jet on May 8 around 5 PM, targeting the monastery located in Nyaung Pin Ward, Banmaw. The monastery had been housing civilians displaced by intense clashes in the area.

The Kan Nar Yate Sha Monastery had served as a temporary refuge for locals fleeing the ongoing battle for control of Banmaw between joint resistance forces and junta troops. The Banmaw offensive, led by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and its allied forces, has been ongoing since the first week of December 2024 and has intensified in recent weeks, forcing most residents to flee. However, some had taken refuge in religious compounds such as monasteries.

The airstrike severely damaged the monastery, prompting KIA and its allies to evacuate more than 380 remaining internally displaced persons (IDPs) to safer areas.

Meanwhile, pro-junta propaganda channels on Telegram claimed that the airstrike on the monastery was a legitimate military action targeting the presence of KIA and People's Defence Force (PDF) members. However, local sources reported that the victims were displaced civilians seeking refuge from the conflict.

The KIA and allied forces have reportedly captured multiple junta military camps in Banmaw, including the town's airport. However, according to military sources, two key junta bases—SAC Infantry Battalion 21 and Light Infantry Battalion 47—have not yet fallen and remain under junta control.

In an attempt to prevent further losses, the junta has increasingly relied on excessive airstrikes to defend its remaining strongholds.
