2. The 16th Citizen of Burma Award Ceremony was held on May 24 in Houston, Texas, United States. The Public Honor Award presented to the people's leader and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was accepted on her behalf by her youngest son, Ko Htein Linn (also known as Kim Aris). Ko Htein Linn accepted the 2025 Citizen of Burma award on his mother's behalf, saying, "For over 30 years, my mother has been a key leader in Myanmar's democratic struggle. Despite the military junta's attempts to imprison her, isolate her, and silence her, they can never imprison her spirit. As she said, ‘Never give up on the dreams of freedom and democracy.’ This award honors her sacrifices and embodies her dream of a free Myanmar. We must continue to speak out, resist, and believe in the coming of democracy.” According to the statement, the award's monetary prize will support the families of political prisoners and fund youth education, reflecting Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's core values. The ceremony was also attended by CRPH Chairperson U Aung Kyi Nyunt, Union Minister for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the National Unity Government, Daw Zin Mar Aung, Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Human Rights, U Aung Kyaw Moe, and Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, U Kyaw Moe Htun.

3. The Union Minister for the Ministry of Health of the National Unity Government, Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, has stated that it has become necessary to construct underground hospitals and clinics capable of withstanding aerial bombardments. The Union Minister highlighted that in the past, we established frontline hospitals and clinics in secure jungle or mountainous areas and provided medical treatment from those locations. However, with intensified attacks—particularly during the months of April and May—those facilities are no longer safe. That’s why we now need to build underground medical facilities that can withstand 500- or even 1,000-pound bombs. Therefore, I would like to urge the people of Myanmar, both local and abroad, as well as international donors, to help us build bomb-resistant underground hospitals and clinics. The Ministry of Health is currently coordinating with 29 regional health officers and 227 township health officers to operate primary healthcare services in 190 townships across the country. Healthcare services are being provided through 106 hospitals, 808 clinics, and over 192 mobile clinics, with a workforce of 5,098 healthcare personnel deployed across various regions. In Sagaing Region, the number of outpatients treated has increased dramatically—from 10,558 patients four years ago to 1,241,633 patients today.

4. The Political Prisoners Network – Myanmar (PPNM) reports that over 200 political prisoners in Magway Prison have been locked down and denied medical treatment since April 13, 2025. The clashes near the prison between local People’s Defense Forces PDFs and junta troops led to prison authorities firing on inmates sheltering in the prayer hall, killing at least two political prisoners, including Saw Shwe Aung. Following the clash, authorities accused political prisoners of involvement and rounded up over 400 inmates who were brutally beaten, causing injuries and gunshot wounds. U Win Win and Ko Phyo, arrested under arbitrary articles, are in critical condition due to the beatings and denial of medical care. Over 200 prisoners remain in lockdown for over a month, with all visitations suspended and even letters and packages withheld. Political prisoners also face water scarcity, forcing them to buy drinking water at high prices and use unsanitary toilet water for bathing.

5. The General Strike Coordination Body (GSCB) has urged the Indian government not to carry out unilateral border fencing while Myanmar remains politically unstable. In a statement issued on May 24, the GSCB referenced the recent killing of members of the People's Defence Force (PDF) from Tamu District near the Myanmar-India border, calling on India to refrain from taking unilateral actions like constructing border fences during this volatile period. The GSCB also called on the Indian government to properly investigate the killing of the PDF members and take appropriate action to ensure such incidents do not happen again. On May 14, ten members of the Tamu District PDF, who were temporarily stationed near Kamma Gyi village on the Myanmar side of the border, went missing. On May 16, the bodies of the missing PDF members were recovered after negotiations with the Indian border security force, Assam Rifles Battalion 1. The GSCB affirmed that its position aligns with the National Unity Government's (NUG) official stance.
