The Myanmar military junta is reportedly intensifying drone technology training at Basic Military Training Unit No. (3), based in Yamethin, in an effort to counter the increasing effectiveness of drone capabilities employed by revolutionary forces. According to the Myanmar Defense and Security Institute, the training includes ongoing hands-on courses in the use of various drone types, including micro reconnaissance drones.

The drones being used in the training are reported to include Chinese and Russian-made reconnaissance drones, attack drones, and micro drones small enough to fit in a clenched fist.

“In Base No. 3, they’ve purchased a wide variety of Chinese and Russian-made drones and are conducting training sessions. These include reconnaissance drones and a range of attack drone types. Among the reconnaissance drones, there are also micro drones small enough to be held in a fist,” said a military source.

Trainees reportedly undergo practical drone operation during the day and theoretical classroom sessions at night, as part of a structured training program.

Drone types being used in the training include DJI and Autel reconnaissance drones, VTOL fixed-wing UAVs, quadcopter and hexacopter attack drones, and Delta Wing suicide drones. Training is being conducted daily with around 200 instructors and trainees, and candidates with a basic technical background from military training programs are being specially selected to participate.

Graduates of the training are reportedly organized into drone units and deployed to combat zones and to reinforce operations with the Tatmadaw (military) and SAC (State Administration Council).

Sources confirmed that senior military officers from the central command are personally overseeing and supervising the training activities on a daily basis.
