๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 2. Military Council and Pyu Saw Htee Forces Summarily Execute Two Civilians and Detain 16 Others in Kan Gyi Village, Kanbalu Township

June 3

Military Council troops and Pyu Saw Htee militia forces from the Kanbalu-based Kyat Thin outpost are reported to have brutally executed two unarmed civilians and abducted 16 others from Kan Gyi Village.

According to the Kanbalu District chapter of the Kyun Hla-Kanbalu Activists Group, at around 9:30 AM on May 31, approximately 100 combined forces from the Military Council’s Kyat Thin outpost in Kanbalu Township and Pyu Saw Htee militias raided the western part of Kan Gyi Village. There, they summarily executed Ko Thein Htway (aged 40) and Maung Zeya Htun (aged 20).

The troops then proceeded to arrest 16 villagers, including underage children, and forcibly took them away. Their whereabouts remain unknown.

Since May 18, continuous troop deployments from the Koe Taung Bo and Kyat Thin outposts have forced nearly 10,000 civilians from surrounding villages in the Koe Taung Bo and Kyat Thin areas to flee their homes, resulting in over two weeks of displacement.

The two columns—estimated at a combined strength of around 200 soldiers—have established a semi-permanent base in Thin Taw Village. They have reportedly looted ox carts, cattle, and valuable property from local villagers.

On May 31, the column from Kyat Thin outpost entered western Kan Gyi Village again, executing Ko Thein Htway and Maung Zeya Htun in cold blood. They also abducted 16 civilians, including three young girls aged 7, 8, and 12. As of now, none of the detainees have been released.

The hilltop military base of the State Administration Council (SAC) in Thay Baw Boe is currently under heavy attack by joint forces of the Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army (KNU/KNLA) and People’s Defence Forces (PDF), using heavy artillery and drones. The offensive has triggered the displacement of more than 500 civilians from the area.

According to the Strategic Documentation Unit of the People’s Defence Forces, the joint attack began on the morning of June 2. The target is the Thay Baw Boe hilltop base—occupied by SAC’s Division 443 and Light Infantry Battalion 32.

The escalation of hostilities between the two sides has prompted fears of intensified conflict. As a result, residents from nearby villages in Waw Lay and Thay Baw Boe areas have fled. Reportedly, 326 from Waw Lay, 125 from Thay Baw Boe, and 65 from Son Se Myine—a total of 507 people—have crossed into Thailand seeking refuge from the fighting.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 5. PNO People’s Militia Launched Attacks Using Heavy Weapons, Says PNLA

June 3

According to a statement released by the Pa-O National Liberation Army (PNLA), the PNO People’s Militia, a subordinate armed group under the junta, launched attacks using heavy weaponry.

This occurred despite the military council’s recent public announcement that a ceasefire would be extended for a month, from June 1 to June 30. The PNLA claimed that the junta’s subordinate organizations, including regional, strategic, and allied forces such as the PNO People’s Militia, disregarded the ceasefire and instead carried out indiscriminate and aggressive attacks.

On June 1, in the Naung Htaw area of Hsihseng Township, and on June 2, in the vicinity of Banmak within the Kadu Gyi area of Mong Maw Township—an area housing the PNLO headquarters—these militias reportedly fired heavy artillery indiscriminately more than 10 times without any preceding armed clashes, the PNLA confirmed.
