🚩🚩 1. Armed Resistance is the Only Path to Freedom, Says KNLA Deputy Commander-in-Chief

July 5
Radio NUG

Major General Saw Baw Kyaw Heh, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), declared that armed resistance remains the only viable path for the Karen people to attain freedom, self-determination, and the right to shape their own destiny. He made these remarks on the occasion of the 76th Kawthoolei Armed Forces Day, which fell on July 5.

"Our people aspire to live with rights, freedom, territorial integrity, and dignity. We have pursued the path of peace time and again. In the end, we had no choice but to establish our armed forces and reclaim our rights through armed struggle," he stated.

He affirmed that the Karen people aim to establish an independent Kawthoolei State, complete with its own administrative systems.

The KNLA is an umbrella armed organization composed of various Karen ethnic armed forces. He added that they are currently collaborating in military operations with Bamar, Mon, and other ethnic nationalities.

"We have formed alliances with other ethnic groups. Our coordination has strengthened, and our aspirations are now more tangible and visible. Our dreams and goals for regaining freedom are becoming more vivid and real. What we are fighting for today is not just the KNLA’s struggle — we fight alongside the Bamar and the Mon. We are united in our shared vision, and we are working together transparently to achieve our common goals," he emphasized.

Despite the loss of many lives over 76 years — including leaders, soldiers, and civilians — the Karen revolution must continue in order to reach its ultimate objectives, Saw Baw Kyaw Heh urged.

"There’s a saying: If we are brave, the enemy will fear us. If we fear, the enemy will grow bolder. So, we must be brave. Only then will the enemy fear us. As we carry out our duties, we must embody courage and resolve," he encouraged.
