Radio NUG

The Ministry of Human Rights under the National Unity Government (NUG) has welcomed the adoption—without a vote—of a resolution by the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council regarding the human rights situation of Rohingya and other ethnic minorities in Myanmar.

The statement expresses Myanmar’s appreciation to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for its leadership throughout the deliberative process of the resolution, which was characterized by transparency and a constructive approach.

The resolution:

  • Strongly condemns the widespread and systematic human rights violations intentionally committed by the terrorist military junta against the Rohingya population and other minority groups. These include village destruction, forced displacement, targeted attacks on civilians, forced conscription, and arbitrary detention.
  • Denounces the junta’s deliberate obstruction of humanitarian aid, including systematic nationwide restrictions on humanitarian access, arbitrary arrest, detention, and killing of aid workers, and seizure of humanitarian facilities.
  • Acknowledges the request by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for an arrest warrant against junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, and affirms that the junta bears legal responsibility for crimes against humanity committed against the Rohingya at the Myanmar–Bangladesh border, such as forced deportation and persecution.
  • Recognizes the efforts of countries investigating and prosecuting serious international crimes committed in Myanmar.
  • Urges the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) to expand investigations into the junta’s ongoing atrocities.
  • Encourages international organizations to protect Myanmar nationals within their jurisdictions and to strictly uphold the principle of non-refoulement—that is, not to forcibly return individuals to Myanmar.

Furthermore, the resolution acknowledges the NUG’s Policy Position on the Rohingya in Rakhine State, affirming:

  • That Rohingya people have the right to citizenship,
  • That discriminatory laws and systems violating their human rights must be dismantled,
  • And that the NUG is committed to implementing the policy, including acting on the final recommendations of the Kofi Annan-led Advisory Commission on Rakhine State.

The resolution also highlights the importance of Myanmar’s participation in the upcoming high-level conference on the situation of Rohingya and other minorities in Myanmar, scheduled for September 30, 2025, in New York. It calls on the Human Rights Council to continue engaging effectively as part of the UN’s mandate and to enhance support mechanisms going forward.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 5. Commemorative Protest Held in Daegu, South Korea for the 7 July Student Uprising Day

July 6
Radio NUG

On July 6, to mark the historic 7 July Student Uprising Day, democracy activists and Myanmar pro-democracy communities in South Korea held commemorative protest events in Busan and Daegu cities.

The events were led by the Myanmar Federal Democracy Movement Coalition (MFDMC), the Busan Network, and the RAM organization, along with other Myanmar democracy support groups across South Korea. The protest in Busan took place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., while the protest in Daegu was held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

July 7, 1962 marks a historic day that commemorates the courage, unity, and defiance of university students who rose up against oppression. On that day, students bravely fought for human rights, democracy, and educational freedom.

In response, the authoritarian regime violently cracked down on the student movement, resulting in the brutal killings of students and the bombing of the historic Yangon University Students' Union building—an act that became symbolic of the regime’s intent to control education through force and terror.

The 7 July Uprising not only exposed the brutality of the dictatorship to the world, but also cemented the fearless resolve of Myanmar's student movement. In honoring this significant date, participants commemorated the sacrifices made by student unions and the general public who resisted tyranny.

The protest aimed to revive the spirit of July 7, strengthen the ongoing resistance against military dictatorship, and reaffirm the collective determination to uproot authoritarian rule.

Activists and resistance members from Daegu, Busan, and surrounding areas, along with other pro-democracy advocates across South Korea, participated in the event.
