๐๐ 1. NUG issues message marking the 50th anniversary of Kachin Martyrs’ Day
August 10
Today, August 10, marks the 50th anniversary of Kachin Martyrs’ Day, and the National Unity Government (NUG) has issued a commemorative message to honour the occasion.
In the message, the NUG extended its best wishes to all Kachin national leaders, Kachin ethnic communities both inside and outside the country, members of the Kachin public, and allied revolutionary forces, praying for their physical health, peace of mind, and the ability to continue fulfilling revolutionary duties free from danger.
It recalled that Kachin national leaders—General Officer Commanding (GOC) Lahtaw Zau Seng, Vice Chief of Staff (VCS) Lahtaw Zau Tu, and General Secretary Salang Kaba Pungshwi Zau Seng—founded and led the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) and Kachin Independence Army (KIA) to overthrow dictatorship, secure the right to self-determination, and establish a federal democratic system. While travelling from the KIO’s Foreign Relations Office in Bangkok, Thailand, to a KIA military base in Chiang Mai district, they were assassinated halfway by a group of unscrupulous agents of the dictatorship, sacrificing their lives.
The message stated that this event represented an immense loss for the entire Kachin people and remains a deeply tragic and unforgettable incident. Therefore, August 10 was designated and commemorated as Kachin Martyrs’ Day, which now marks its 50th anniversary.
It acknowledged that despite the death of these leaders and the heavy losses suffered, the KIO/KIA—the vanguard of the Kachin revolution—continued their mission with unity and discipline, demonstrating the strong solidarity of the Kachin people and the far-sighted leadership of their leaders.
The NUG also reaffirmed its firm belief that in the current Spring Revolution, Kachin national leaders and revolutionary forces will continue working closely and in solidarity with the NUG and the people across Myanmar to achieve shared revolutionary goals—uprooting military dictatorship, ensuring equality for all nationalities, and building a federal democratic union with full self-determination.
Finally, the message paid solemn tribute to all Kachin national leaders, martyrs, the Kachin public, and all Kachin revolutionary comrades who have sacrificed their lives, limbs, and well-being—from the struggle for Myanmar’s independence to the current efforts to establish a new federal democratic union—on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Kachin Martyrs’ Day.

August 10
The Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) Information Department announced on the evening of August 9 that in addition to its headquarters in Laiza, surrounding areas under KIO control have also been affected by flooding, with significant damage reported in multiple IDP camps and villages.
According to local sources, heavy rains on August 4 and water flowing down from the mountains caused flooding, resulting in casualties and destruction of homes. The affected areas include Daw Hpum Yang, Kone Law, Myothit, and Mai Ja Yang, where IDP camps and villages have been submerged and damaged.

๐๐ 4. KNDF announces indefinite closure of Loikaw–Demoso–Pruso road due to junta artillery attacks and troop movements
August 10
The Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF) announced today that the Loikaw–Demoso–Pruso main road will be closed indefinitely due to the military junta’s artillery shelling and troop offensives.
The statement follows renewed clashes in Demoso Township after the junta launched fresh attacks in the wake of Operation 1111.
The KNDF urged the public to refrain from using the Loikaw–Demoso–Pruso road starting August 10, citing on-the-ground military conditions. It said junta forces began offensives into Demoso town on August 8, resulting in direct clashes with resistance forces.
Additionally, junta troops stationed in Pruso Township have been firing artillery along the Demoso–Pruso road.
Due to the heightened military tensions, the KNDF said the closure will also apply to connecting side roads linked to the main route, starting August 10, with no time limit for reopening.
It is reported that aside from junta garrison units—Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 102 and Infantry Battalion (IB) 427—most areas of Demoso Township are under the control of Karenni joint forces.
This report was sent by Radio NUG correspondent Ko Khant.
