๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 1. KIA and allied forces recapture military bases at Main Naung and Ma Mon Kaing in Hpakant

August 17

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied forces successfully recaptured military bases in Main Naung and Ma Mon Kaing, located in Hpakant Township, Kachin State, according to a statement from KIA’s Information Department.

The junta and its allied Shan Ni Army (SNA) had been stationed at the bases in Main Naung and Ma Mon Kaing. On August 16, KIA and allied forces launched coordinated attacks, seizing control of the bases.

Ground reports indicate the offensive began at around 3:00 a.m. and the bases were captured by 10:20 a.m. the same day.

The regained bases were previously controlled by KIA’s 9th Brigade, 26th Battalion, but were abandoned in July due to earlier military pressure.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 2. Military airstrike kills three civilians, including a child, in eastern Mogok

August 17

The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) reported that an airstrike by the junta on areas under TNLA control in Mogok Township, Mandalay Region, killed three civilians — a child and two men — on the morning of August 17.

At around 9:00 a.m., junta aircraft dropped three 250-pound bombs on eastern Mogok, targeting areas near the township police station and the general administration office.

As a result, three civilians were killed and several buildings destroyed, including three houses and a four-story structure.

According to local residents, the bombs struck three separate points: one west of the general hospital, one in front of the Padamya Ngamauk guesthouse, and one in front of the state-owned bank.

This strike comes only two days after junta jets bombed the same area on August 15, killing 21 civilians and injuring seven, while destroying 15 houses.

According to TNLA records, the junta has carried out at least seven airstrikes in northern Shan and Mandalay Regions this month alone: three in Mogok, two in Kyaukme, and two in Hsipaw. These strikes have killed 38 civilians — including three children, two monks, 17 women, and 16 men — while injuring 27 more. At least 42 houses, one school, one building, four cars, and three motorcycles were destroyed.

August 17

The People’s Defense Team of Tanintharyi Township reported that a junta vehicle transporting wounded soldiers was destroyed in a landmine and gunfire attack.

On August 12, resistance forces ambushed two military vehicles near Kamto Village, as they were carrying wounded soldiers from fighting at Thein Khun and Tamot Chone villages back towards Myeik.

One vehicle was disabled beyond use, forcing the other to tow it to the junta’s 556th Infantry Battalion base in Zawet, Tanintharyi Township.

The attack caused significant disruption to junta troop movements, the local resistance group stated.
