๐๐ 2. ICNCC Strongly Rejects the Junta’s Sham Election
August 19
Radio NUG
On August 19, the Interim Chin National Consultative Council (ICNCC) issued a statement strongly rejecting the military junta’s preparations to hold a sham election.
According to the ICNCC statement, the junta is attempting to organize this fake election in order to legitimize its unlawful seizure of power on February 1, 2021, and to nullify the results of the 2020 general election and the legitimacy of the elected parliamentarians, thereby extending its illegitimate rule.
“The terrorist military council is not a legitimate government and has absolutely no authority to organize or conduct any form of election. Such a sham election represents only the military council and its associates and can never genuinely reflect the will of the people,” the ICNCC declared.
The ICNCC highlighted that since seizing power, the junta has continued to commit atrocities, including the brutal killing of innocent civilians, arbitrary arrests and detention, the use of civilians as human shields, the burning and destruction of homes, monasteries, and schools, indiscriminate airstrikes and shelling, as well as unlawful forced conscription.
Furthermore, the ICNCC emphasized that under current conditions—devoid of freedom, justice, and transparency—it is impossible to hold elections that meet democratic standards. Instead of fostering peace and democracy, such an election would only deepen conflict.
The ICNCC urged the people to completely boycott and resist participation in this sham election. It also called upon international governments and organizations not to recognize or endorse the process but instead to oppose it.
In addition, the ICNCC reaffirmed its ongoing efforts to establish a new Federal Democratic Union that guarantees the right of self-determination for the Chin people and called for continued public support.

๐๐ 3. UK Honors Myanmar Communities Providing Humanitarian Assistance; KNU Urges International Organizations to Cease Collaboration with the Junta
August 19
Radio NUG
On August 19, marking World Humanitarian Day, the UK government issued a statement honoring the courage, resilience, and leadership of communities across Myanmar who, under difficult circumstances, are at the forefront of providing humanitarian assistance to those in need.
The UK government emphasized that its efforts in Myanmar go beyond providing humanitarian aid directly to affected populations, noting that it is also working to strengthen the capacity of local communities so that they can lead their own responses and provide assistance that is better aligned with local needs.
Meanwhile, on World Humanitarian Day, the Karen National Union (KNU) expressed its prayers for all peoples around the world to enjoy the right to live in freedom.
The KNU further called upon international organizations, civil society groups, and grassroots organizations that are currently providing humanitarian support to cease all collaboration with the terrorist military junta. Instead, it urged them to work in cooperation with the KNU—the Karen National Union, which provides humanitarian assistance within Kawthoolei to all communities regardless of ethnicity or religion.

๐๐ 4. Shan Youth Congress Opposes Junta-Orchestrated Protests Meant to Incite Ethnic Conflict
August 19
Radio NUG
The Shan Youth Congress has issued a statement strongly opposing protests organized by the military council that are deliberately designed to incite ethnic conflict among different nationalities in Shan State.
On August 18, the junta organized protests in the towns of Mongnai, Mongpan, Kunhing, and Kholam. On August 19, protests were staged in Panglong, Lashio, Namhsan, and Mongmai. Further demonstrations were scheduled for August 20 in Mongyai and Namlan. These protests specifically targeted the TNLA, MNDAA, and allied revolutionary forces.
It is reported that the junta has been forcing rural villagers to participate in these demonstrations—requiring at least one person per household to attend. Furthermore, through township administrative staff, participants were instructed to wear traditional Shan attire as a condition for attending the protests.
The military regime is said to be employing the same “divide-and-rule” strategy of ethnic manipulation practiced by successive military dictatorships, with the aim of stirring up conflict among local ethnic communities. The people forced into these protests, the Shan Youth Congress emphasized, are simply being exploited for political purposes.
The Congress clarified that these protests do not reflect the genuine will of the Shan people. It also noted that some Shan individuals who are actively supporting the military council’s demonstrations in fact do not represent the true sentiments of the Shan population.

๐๐ 5. Russia, China, India, and Belarus Supporting Myanmar Junta’s Continued War Crimes, JFM Reports
August 19
Radio NUG
Justice For Myanmar (JFM) has reported that while the illegitimate junta continues committing crimes against the people of Myanmar and waging its campaign of terror, its international enablers are fueling the regime’s capacity to escalate war crimes.
According to JFM, Russia, China, India, and Belarus remain key supporters of the terrorist junta, supplying military weapons, dual-use goods, technologies, and military training.
These countries, JFM stressed, are directly enabling the junta to carry out indiscriminate airstrikes, mass killings, the destruction of civilian villages, unlawful arrests, and torture.
JFM further stated that the governments and businesses of these countries, as partners and supporters of the junta, will be held accountable for their complicity.
