📌📌 2. Over 50 Civil Society Organizations Urge Taiwan Government Not to Deport Myanmar Nationals

August 28

According to Blood Money Campaign, a coalition of 51 civil society organizations has sent an open letter urging the Taiwan government to immediately halt the forced deportation of Myanmar nationals who fled for political reasons.

The letter warns that those deported face a high risk of extrajudicial killings, torture, ill-treatment, and degrading treatment that violates their human dignity. It emphasizes that forced deportation by any government, disregarding the dangers faced by Myanmar citizens, amounts to a breach of international law.

The CSOs strongly called on the Taiwan government—particularly the National Immigration Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs—to provide protection and asylum for Myanmar escapees to prevent their persecution.

The letter also reminded Taiwan of its commitments under international conventions, including:

  • the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and
  • the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination,

urging full compliance with these obligations.

The Blood Money Campaign pointed out that the Myanmar junta, which has suffered major military setbacks, is forcibly conscripting youths as soldiers. Among those deported back to Myanmar, large numbers of young returnees have been forcibly recruited and used as frontline soldiers.

Records further indicate that governments of Malaysia and Thailand have also deported Myanmar nationals, handing them over to the junta.

📌📌 3. Singapore-Based Ben Line Agencies Implicated in International Crimes of Myanmar Military Junta

August 28

The Blood Money Campaign has revealed that Ben Line Agencies, a Singapore-based shipping and logistics company, is complicit in the international crimes of the Myanmar military junta.

“Ben Line Agencies, though internationally recognized as a legitimate global shipping and maritime services provider, has been assisting the junta by enabling the continued flow of revenues from natural gas operations and by providing critical support through which it profits substantially. In Myanmar, the company provides shipping services, offshore logistics, and support for oil and gas exploration projects,” the statement explained.

Findings from Justice For Myanmar indicate that Ben Line Agencies, through its branch office in Kyaukphyu, Rakhine State, directly provides services to international oil companies involved in the Shwe Gas Project.

By servicing the Shwe Gas Project, Ben Line Agencies is accused of covertly strengthening the junta’s grip on power and being directly complicit in the regime’s international crimes.

Despite calls for accountability and transparency regarding its involvement, Ben Line Agencies has not provided any response.
