📌📌 1. Sangha Samagga – Mandalay Declares Continuation of the Struggle until the Spring Revolution Triumphs
September 25
Sangha Samagga – Mandalay announced today, September 25, that it will continue to fight for the success of the Spring Revolution while upholding the spirit of the Saffron Revolution.
This declaration was issued to mark the 18th anniversary of the Saffron Revolution of 2007.
The organization expressed that it will forever honor the courageous spirit, sacrifice, and perseverance of the monks and the people who participated in the Saffron Revolution.
According to historical records, the Saffron Revolution was a spark in Myanmar’s history that clearly demonstrated the people’s aspirations for justice, freedom, and democracy.
In September 2007, in response to economic hardships and unjust oppression, Buddhist monks led peaceful mass demonstrations joined by tens of thousands of citizens in Pakokku, Mandalay, Yangon, and other major cities. This gave rise to what became known as the Saffron Revolution.
The regime violently cracked down on the demonstrators led by the saffron-robed monks, resulting in the deaths of monks and civilians, as well as the arrests of thousands—a trauma that still lingers to this day, Sangha Samagga – Mandalay stated.
The statement further highlighted that the ongoing Spring Revolution is also a flame lit for the freedom and justice of the Myanmar people. Thus, Sangha Samagga – Mandalay declared its commitment to uphold the spirit of the Saffron Revolution and to continue fighting until the Spring Revolution succeeds.
They also emphasized that the sacrifices of the monks and the people during the Saffron Revolution must not be in vain. Since the ultimate goal is to bring an end to the military dictatorship and to establish a democratic government, the international community is urged to support the Spring Revolution, just as it supported the Saffron Revolution.
