Reports indicate that junta forces from Light Infantry Battalion 58, the only military garrison responsible for guarding Waingmaw Town, together with People’s Militia units, had previously conducted an offensive operation along the road connecting Wu Yan Village to Law Man Village. During those battles, the KIA and its allies were forced to make tactical withdrawals from some positions along the Law Man road.

Speaking to Myitkyina News Journal, Colonel Naw Bu, spokesperson for the Kachin Independence Organization/Army (KIO/KIA), stated:

“At the moment, no side has firm control over the area. Sometimes the junta troops pull back, sometimes our forces withdraw. The situation around Waingmaw (Law Man) remains tense and fluid.”
