The Acting President of the National Unity Government (NUG), Duwa Lashi La, stated in a video message delivered for the 76th International Human Rights Day ceremony on December 10 that the Spring Revolution has carried forward the demands and aspirations of revolutions across generations.

"The Spring Revolution in Myanmar aligns with human rights principles, advocating for justice and freedom. Born out of resistance to an illegal military coup, it has upheld demands for freedom and justice, which have remained fundamental throughout generations and revolutions. Its ultimate objectives include the dismantling of authoritarian regimes and the establishment of a federal democratic union, guaranteeing freedom and justice for all individuals," he remarked.

The Spring Revolution emerged following the February 1, 2021 military coup, initiated through public movements opposing the military dictatorship.

Union Prime Minister Mahn Win Khaing Than pledged efforts to establish a federal union guaranteeing freedom and justice in his video message for the 76th International Human Rights Day on December 10.

"In line with the 2024 Human Rights Day theme, the National Unity Government (NUG) reaffirms its unwavering commitment to building a federal union that ensures freedom and justice. We will continue to pursue this goal with determination," he stated.

Currently, the NUG is progressing under the Federal Charter and collaborating with ethnic revolutionary organizations on military and political efforts.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 3. CRPH Urges Halt to Collaboration with Min Aung Hlaing, Sought as an International Criminal

The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) issued a warning on International Human Rights Day, December 10, urging an immediate end to any cooperation with Min Aung Hlaing, who is being sought as an international criminal.

The CRPH stated that interactions and collaborations with Min Aung Hlaing's oppressive military council may perpetuate violence and atrocities in Myanmar and expose cooperating nations to global condemnation. The CRPH called on countries to sever ties with the military council and support efforts to end its crimes.

Since the coup, at least 6,000 civilians have been killed, around 100,000 buildings destroyed, and over three million people displaced. An estimated 18.6 million people, including women and children, urgently require humanitarian assistance.

Union Minister U Aung Myo Min stated on the 76th International Human Rights Day that no amount of oppression by authoritarian regimes has been able to suppress the people's desire for human rights.

"Throughout Myanmar's history, people have faced oppression and discrimination across generations. Yet, those committed to defending and advancing human rights have always risen to the occasion, resisting tyranny collectively. No authoritarian regime has ever succeeded in erasing the people's will for human rights," he said.

The minister emphasized that despite oppression, people continue fighting for human rights, particularly under the NUG's governance in liberated territories.

The Norwegian Embassy in Yangon issued a statement on International Human Rights Day expressing deep concern over Myanmar's human rights situation.

Marking the Human Rights Day theme, "Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now," the embassy honored those who have sacrificed for peace and justice. It highlighted the worsening human rights violations since the February 2021 coup, calling for all parties in the conflict to fully adhere to international laws and human rights standards.
