๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 1. Bomb Blast in Mae Sot Town near Thai-Myanmar Border Leaves 3 Dead, Nearly 40 Injured; KNU Denies Allegations of Involvement

A bomb explosion occurred in Mae Sot Town, Tak Province, near the Thai-Myanmar border, resulting in 3 deaths and injuries to 48 others, according to local media outlets.

The explosion took place on the night of December 13, around 11:30 PM, during the annual Doi Loi Fa Festival in Mae Sot.

Following the incident, Thai authorities arrested two suspects. One of them is reportedly a member of the Karen National Union (KNU), while the other is a Thai national, as confirmed by Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, Archayont Kraithong, to the media.

In response, the KNU expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased and injured, stating that they do not condone acts of violence and strongly oppose those responsible. They further denied the accusation that a KNU member was involved, asserting that it was baseless. The KNU spokesperson, Saw Taw Nee, announced their willingness to cooperate with Thai authorities in the investigation.

Reports indicate that the explosion occurred during a clash between two youth groups, where an improvised explosive device was used.

Mae Sot Town is adjacent to KNU Brigade 6's territory, and a refugee camp for displaced people from Myanmar is located nearby.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 2. Junta Checkpoint on Nyaung Lay Bin - Madauk Road Attacked, 5 Soldiers Killed

The military junta's checkpoint at Malutay Camp, located along the Nyaung Lay Bin - Madauk road in Bago Region, was attacked, resulting in the deaths of 5 junta soldiers, according to Southern Command Region 2's announcement.

The attack occurred on December 14, around 3:00 AM, targeting the checkpoint. By 4:00 AM, the area was reportedly cleared.

During the attack, 5 junta soldiers were killed, and weapons including three MA-1 rifles, two G-3 rifles, landmines, and various military supplies were seized.

The operation was carried out by the People’s Defense Forces (PDF), Southern Command Region 2, and Battalion 3703.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 3. Resistance Forces Retake Junta and Pyu Saw Htee-Occupied Village in Kyun Hla

On December 13, resistance forces retook Madauk Village in Kyun Hla Township, which had been occupied by around 70 junta soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee militia members. This was reported by the Kyun Hla Kanbalu Activist Network.

The resistance forces launched the attack at 5:30 AM on December 13, and after over 5 hours of fighting, successfully regained control of the village by 10:45 AM.

The clash resulted in one junta soldier killed and around 20 others severely injured. The injured were reportedly evacuated towards the eastern side of Lwat Taik Village.

Weapons and supplies seized by the resistance forces included one MA-1 rifle, 460 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, five ammunition boxes, one large landmine, six smaller landmines, two helmets, and one icon device.

The junta and Pyu Saw Htee forces had earlier launched a military campaign into Kyun Hla Township with around 200 troops on November 20, occupying multiple villages including Kauk Ko Kone, Lwat Taik, Sweh Hla, and Madauk. Reports indicate that these forces had burned homes, looted civilian properties, and destroyed crops using combine harvesters.

The recently liberated Madauk Village had also suffered repeated arson attacks by junta forces, including on May 30, 2023, and twice in November 2023, resulting in the destruction of 8 civilian homes.

The ongoing military aggression has displaced approximately 20,000 civilians in Kyun Hla Township. These internally displaced persons (IDPs) are reportedly in urgent need of food, medicine, warm clothing, blankets, and shelter, with the displacement now lasting nearly a month.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 4. Junta Troops Heading for Offensive in Myin Chan Attacked, 2 Soldiers Killed

In Myin Chan Township, Mandalay Region, junta and Pyu Saw Htee forces heading east for an offensive were attacked with heavy artillery, resulting in 2 deaths, according to the Freedom Fighter Guerrilla Force.

The incident occurred on December 13, as the 70-strong junta and Pyu Saw Htee convoy moved out from Let Thit Village. The resistance forces targeted them with 60mm and 40mm mortar shells.

The attack left 2 junta soldiers dead and 7 others injured. Detailed information is still under investigation.

Following the attack, junta troops indiscriminately fired weapons, including heavy artillery, as they retreated back into Let Thit Village.

One civilian was injured during the junta's retaliatory gunfire.

The operation was conducted jointly by the Freedom Fighter Guerrilla Force, 8 Star, LACR, and allied groups.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 5. Continuous Clashes in Yedashe Result in 12 Junta Soldiers Killed

In Yedashe Township, Bago Region, clashes have occurred continuously between the junta forces and resistance fighters near Pyitawkon Village, east of the Sittoung River, resulting in the death of 12 junta soldiers, according to the Naypyidaw PDF (People’s Defense Force).

The clashes began on December 12 at approximately 3:00 PM, when around 100 junta troops advancing into the area were ambushed with landmines and attacked with both heavy and small firearms, forcing them to retreat.

Later, at around 6:00 PM, the junta troops launched another offensive, leading to a two-hour-long battle. This time, the junta troops refused to retreat and established a position in Pyitawkon Village, where they fortified themselves for the entire night.

Throughout the night, the junta positions were bombarded with heavy artillery, and by 3:15 AM, resistance forces launched a counteroffensive, forcing the advancing soldiers to retreat once again.

During the conflict, 12 junta soldiers were reportedly killed. The Naypyidaw PDF has warned that further clashes could occur at any moment given the current situation.

This operation was carried out by the collaborative efforts of the Sittoung River Yedashe Joint Operation Group, including Naypyidaw PDF Battalions 901 and 3502, as well as the Royal Thunderstorm Column (RTC).

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 6. Fugitive Responsible for Poet U Sein Win's Death Captured

The fugitive who killed poet U Sein Win by setting him on fire at an industrial noodle factory on May 14, 2021, has been apprehended, according to the Monywa Township Public Security Committee.

"A connection with the military dogs is evident. This person killed Ko Sein Win and later worked as an informant for the junta. While conducting surveillance work today, they were caught. Further investigations and legal proceedings will follow," stated an official from the Monywa Township Public Security Committee.

Details regarding the fugitive’s confession will be shared with the public via the Monywa Township People’s Defense Forces (PDF) Facebook page, according to the announcement.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 7. Junta Forces Kill Female Milk Seller in Launglon Township

On December 13, at around 5:00 AM, junta forces advancing from Dawei towards Launglon Township shot and killed a 50-year-old local woman named Daw Nwet Than from Inzauk Village, according to a statement by the DDMSC (Dawei District Democracy and Social Committee).

Daw Nwet Than was on her way to deliver milk by motorcycle when she encountered junta soldiers and was fatally shot.

The junta convoy, comprising approximately 100 troops, had been advancing from Dawei to Launglon since December 12, detaining locals and conducting interrogations, in addition to committing this killing.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 8. PLA (222) Battalion Holds Graduation Ceremony with Majority Lisu Fighters

The People's Liberation Army (PLA) Battalion 222, predominantly composed of Lisu ethnic fighters, held a graduation ceremony for their Basic Military Training Course 2/2024 on December 10 in a liberated area, according to a PLA statement.

The event was attended by allied organizations and local residents. The Lisu fighters emphasized their commitment to the liberation of all oppressed ethnic groups across Myanmar while fighting for the independence of the Lisu people.

PLA Battalion 222 is primarily active in Mogok and Thabeikkyin Townships. It has been instrumental in dismantling key military operations, including the Belu Column and its commander.
