The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management under the National Unity Government (NUG), Dr. Ngai Tam Maung, along with his delegation, conducted a field visit to NUG-controlled territories in the Pakokku and Gangaw districts of Magway Region in December 2024. According to a press release by the NUG, the visit aimed to ensure more effective delivery of humanitarian aid to those in urgent need through discussions and coordination with refugee camp leaders, township administration members, village administrative groups, revolutionary forces, and civil society organizations.
During the trip, the delegation:
Explained the ministry's ongoing activities to increase public awareness.
Met with conflict-affected individuals to offer moral support and provide humanitarian assistance.
Visited those injured or disabled due to airstrikes by the military junta and consoled families whose homes were destroyed by fires.
Assessed the ministry's support for income-generation programs and identified future initiatives.
Inspected school shelters dug for bomb protection and evaluated the status of ministry-supported healthcare facilities and nursing schools.
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister participated in local events, such as ceremonies for Human Rights Day and campaigns opposing violence against women, in collaboration with local communities. The press release highlighted that the delegation's activities fostered a strong connection with the affected populations and addressed their immediate needs.

๐๐ 2. 13 Civilians Killed, 36 Injured in Ann Township from November 2023 to December 2024

According to a report from the Humanitarian and Development Coordination Office (HDCO) of the Arakan National Council, military atrocities committed by the junta in Ann Township have resulted in 13 civilian deaths and 36 injuries between November 11, 2023, and December 5, 2024. Families of the deceased and injured remain in dire need of assistance.
The report also noted that renewed clashes between the Arakan Army (AA) and the military junta intensified significantly throughout 2024, peaking toward the year’s end. The conflict has displaced tens of thousands of civilians, many of whom now live in temporary shelters with urgent needs for food, healthcare, and basic supplies.
Immediate necessities include:
Food supplies, healthcare, and shelter.
Kitchenware, hygiene products, and sanitary items for women.
Nutrition for mothers and children, mosquito nets, and warm clothing for the winter season.
Additionally, some displaced individuals are living in makeshift tents on vacant land due to the lack of proper shelter, underscoring the critical need for immediate assistance in providing protective housing.

๐๐ 3. CYMA Provides Christmas Aid to Myanmar Conflict-Displaced Persons

On December 21, the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) distributed Christmas aid worth approximately 400,000 rupees in essential food supplies to conflict-displaced persons from Myanmar and the Indian state of Manipur.
The support was provided to eight refugee camps, including six in Mizoram’s Aizawl district—Tuiral Camp, Sihhmui Camp 1 and 2, Sairang Camp, Leitan Camp, and YHAI Camp—and two in Manipur—BSUP Edenthar Camp and RAY Camp.
The distributed supplies included:
125 bags of rice.
45 containers of cooking oil.
16 bags of beans.
22 bags of dried meat.
The allocation of aid was adjusted according to the population size of each camp, ensuring equitable distribution. The CYMA initiative has been praised as a meaningful gesture of support for displaced individuals during the holiday season.

๐๐ 4. MNDAA Repairs Bridge Destroyed by Junta Forces in Lashio

The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) has announced that it is repairing a bridge leading to the Hot Springs area in Lashio, Shan State, which was destroyed by junta forces during the battle for the city.
According to an MNDAA official, the repair work on the Hot Springs bridge has been ongoing for about a week and is expected to be completed by early next month.
Reconstruction efforts in Lashio are being carried out step by step, with priority given to restoring damaged bridges to ensure smooth transportation links.
Recently, the Enai Bridge was also repaired, and significant efforts are being made to restore access to electricity and water supplies.
The Hot Springs, one of Lashio's most prominent attractions, sees the highest number of visitors during the winter season. It is expected that after the bridge repairs are completed, the area will become even more bustling with activity.

๐๐ 5. Fire in Buthidaung’s Ward No. 4: AA Issues Statement

On December 20, at approximately 4:27 PM, a fire broke out at the residence of Ali Joo in Ward No. 4, Buthidaung Township, and subsequently spread to neighboring homes, according to a statement released by the Arakan Army (AA).
The fire engulfed around 26 houses in Ward No. 4, as reported.
Members of the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA), in cooperation with local residents, worked together to extinguish the fire, successfully bringing it under control by around 6:00 PM that evening.
The Arakan Public Authority is currently investigating the incident. The AA noted that further updates would be released as more information becomes available.
