๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 3. Thailand's National Security Committee to Address Border Issues with UWSA

December 7
Radio NUG

The Bangkok Post reported that Thailand's National Security, Border Affairs, and Strategic Reforms Committee plans to discuss tensions with the United Wa State Army (UWSA) along the Thai-Myanmar border on December 13.

Rangsiman Rome, Deputy Leader of Thailand’s Move Forward Party and committee chairman, voiced concerns about UWSA’s presence near the Thai border, calling it a matter of national security. He emphasized the humanitarian crisis caused by Myanmar’s internal conflicts, including military airstrikes, which have forced over two million refugees into Thailand, exceeding the country’s capacity to accommodate just 100,000.

Rome highlighted the growing issue of transnational crimes, particularly drug trafficking, linked to UWSA. He accused Wa-controlled areas of using electricity supplied from Thailand to support illicit drug production, though conclusive evidence remains unavailable.

The committee will also discuss recent incidents, including the Myanmar military navy’s interception of Thai fishing boats in Myanmar waters.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 4. UWSA and MNDAA Halt Cross-Border Trade at Fangshih Gate

December 7
Radio NUG

In northern Shan State, at the China-Myanmar border between Hopang and Kunlong, trade routes through the Fangshih Gate have been mutually blocked by the UWSA and Kokang forces (MNDAA), according to reports from Shwe Phi Myay News Agency.

The blockade began under pressure from China, with UWSA halting shipments from Hopang to Kokang areas. Similarly, Kokang forces responded by restricting trade in the opposite direction.

Since October, the UWSA had already imposed strict regulations on goods transported through Fangshih Gate, allowing passage only under stringent conditions. Reports describe restrictions so severe that some food supplies must be entirely consumed or discarded before crossing.

The Kokang side justified the blockade as a measure to limit internal trade. A female local from Hopang shared insights into the ongoing situation, which has created significant challenges for residents and traders alike.
