January 22, Radio NUG

China has announced plans to launch the second wave of the “Zinyaw” operation this year, focusing on cracking down on scammers (referred to as Kyarpyaint) and illicit arms and ammunition smuggling, in cooperation with countries in the Mekong region, including Myanmar and Thailand, according to a press release by the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar.

The Lancang-Mekong Law Enforcement Cooperation Center (LMLECC) held a meeting on January 21 in Kunming, China, to review its previous law enforcement operations and assess progress, as stated in the report.

The operation, known as Zinyaw, targets online scamming syndicates (Kyarpyaint) and illegal arms smuggling. The operation involves participation from six countries: China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

Officials from the interior ministries of these countries first met on August 15–16, 2023, in Chiang Mai, Thailand, to discuss strategies. At that time, the launch of a special operation aimed at suppressing scammers was announced.

The National Unity Government (NUG) and its allied revolutionary forces released a statement on January 20 urging neighboring countries to collaborate with the revolutionary forces to effectively eliminate online scamming operations within Myanmar.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 3. Majority of Residents Relocate from Shwe Thaung Yan Due to Lack of Trust in SAC Security

January 22

Despite fortified security measures implemented by the SAC (State Administration Council) in Shwe Thaung Yan Town, Pathein Township, Ayeyarwady Region, many residents have relocated to Pathein due to a lack of trust, according to an announcement by the Pathein Township People’s Defense Force on January 22.

Reports indicate that only a few staunch supporters of the military and financially constrained residents remain in the town.

A local resident commented, “They’ve fortified security, but they know battles are imminent. If they can’t hold the line, they’ll resort to airstrikes. There’s no trust here. If we can, we have to move. When they lose, they’ll flee too. Their base is essentially a battlefield. This is just another example of wasted effort.”

Additionally, on the morning of January 22 at 7:40 AM, a military helicopter was seen patrolling over Pathein and nearby townships.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 4. Blaming Power Outages on PDFs: Lobbyists Spread Propaganda

January 22 – RadioNUG

The Burma Affairs Conflict Study has reported that military lobbyists are spreading propaganda, claiming that the nationwide electricity shortages are caused by local defense forces (PDFs) sabotaging power pylons and killing electricity workers.

Between January 1 and 17, 2025, more than 50 posts were made on 13 military-controlled channels, alleging that revolutionary armed groups were causing power outages. The propaganda primarily targets PDFs, accusing them of destroying power towers and killing electrical workers. Many posts used footage of the destruction of power towers belonging to the military-owned telecom company Mytel, further alleging that PDFs were behind these acts.

Min Aung Hlaing, the military junta leader, also claimed during a recent meeting that electricity shortages stem from protests against the construction of power plants initiated around 2005.

The report suggests that the junta is concealing the real reasons behind electricity production and distribution failures, including conflicts after the military coup, natural disasters, economic decline, currency devaluation, and the loss of foreign investments due to public distrust of the junta. It also highlights the junta's poor management, diminishing human resources, and declining foreign investments as underlying issues.
