๐๐ 1. Ensuring a Balance Between Governance and Rule of Law is Key to Public Confidence, Says Union Prime Minister

Union Prime Minister Mann Win Khaing Than stated on January 23 that only by achieving a balanced implementation of governance and rule of law can the public feel secure and confident. He made these remarks during the National Unity Government’s (NUG) Interim Regional Public Administration Implementation Central Committee meeting.
He emphasized, "When implementing governance, it is essential to ensure that political leadership within the regions aligns with sustainable processes that can accommodate the administrative mechanisms required in the future. This effort must be linked to the collaborative efforts of the National Unity Government, the Union Government, and the Commission for Federal and State Coordination. Additionally, discussions about tax reform policies are already underway among ministers, aiming for the most effective and feasible solutions."
He added, "Since governance and rule of law are interlinked, a balanced implementation is essential for the public to live securely under the protection of the law."
The meeting was chaired by Union Prime Minister Mann Win Khaing Than and attended by union ministers, deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, associate secretaries, and relevant department officials.

๐๐ 2. UK Issues Warning Against Travel to Seven Townships in Ayeyarwady Region

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) issued a warning on January 22 advising against non-essential travel to seven areas in Ayeyarwady Region that border Rakhine State.
The affected townships include Kyangin, Myanaung, Ingapu, Laymyethna, Yaykyi, Thabaung, and Pathein. The advisory cautioned that ignoring these warnings may result in the invalidation of travel insurance.
Additionally, the FCDO advised against all travel to Chin State, Kachin State, Kayah State, Kayin State, Mon State, Rakhine State, Sagaing Region, and Magway Region. They also recommended avoiding unnecessary travel to islands and southern townships in Tanintharyi Region, northern Shan State, northern Mandalay Region, Pyin Oo Lwin Township, the Yangon-Mandalay Highway, and areas in eastern Bago Region.

๐๐ 3. Outbreak of Diarrhea in Mandalay’s Obo Prison Amid Poor Healthcare Access

An outbreak of diarrhea has been reported in Obo Prison in Mandalay Region, but prison authorities have failed to provide adequate healthcare, according to PPNM.
Reports indicate that affected prisoners were given anti-diarrheal medications and a single sachet of oral rehydration salts each.
The outbreak, which began in the second week of January, has affected approximately 40 male prisoners and 25 female prisoners, including political detainees. While some have recovered, others are reportedly experiencing red rashes across their bodies as a post-symptom effect.
The poor quality of food provided daily has also contributed to tensions between prisoners and authorities, with conflicts reported on January 14 due to unpalatable meals.

๐๐ 4. Sixty Undocumented Myanmar Nationals Arrested in Malaysia

On the evening of January 22, Malaysian authorities conducted an immigration raid in Kuala Lumpur’s Jalan Alor and Bukit Bintang areas, resulting in the arrest of 60 undocumented Myanmar nationals. The operation involved the police, immigration department, and enforcement units.
The arrested individuals included Myanmar workers at restaurants, particularly those in Burmese and Chin-owned establishments, as well as Chinese restaurants.
Apart from the 60 Myanmar nationals, the raid also led to the detention of 71 Bangladeshi nationals, 24 Indonesians, 16 Nepalese, three Pakistanis, one Egyptian, and one Sudanese national. The detainees are being held at the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Office for further investigation under provisions of Malaysia’s Immigration Act 6(1)(c), 15(1)(c) of 1959/63, and 39(b) of 1963.

๐๐ 5. 18 Civilians, Including Two Children, Killed in Kachin State Between January 1–23 Due to Military Junta's Attacks

According to data collected by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), 18 civilians—9 women and 9 men—were confirmed dead due to airstrikes conducted by the military junta in Kachin State from January 1 to 23, 2025. Among the victims were two children under the age of 18.
One notable incident occurred on January 20 when the junta’s drone bombed Sanka Village in Waingmaw Township. The bomb exploded inside the premises of Waisa Manao Mya Banana Company, killing a worker, U Htein Htein Lin.
