๐๐ 8. Chinese Deputy Minister Visits Golden Triangle Region to Observe Scam Operations
January 29, Radio NUG
On January 29, the Chinese Deputy Minister of Public Security, who was visiting Thailand, arrived in Mae Sot and conducted an observation of the Golden Triangle Economic Zone from the Thai side.
According to The Reporters, the site, situated on the Myanmar-Thailand border in Kayin State near Myawaddy, is known for being operated by the Yatai International Holdings Group, a Chinese-owned company, in partnership with the SAC-controlled Border Guard Force (BGF) led by Colonel Chit Lin Myaing of Chit Lin Myaing Company.
The Chinese delegation’s visit was reportedly linked to concerns over human trafficking involving Chinese nationals and fraudulent online financial activities taking place in the zone.
The Golden Triangle Economic Zone, granted a 90-year operational license, expanded significantly following the 2021 military coup and became notorious for hosting online scam operations.
China has already dismantled similar scam hubs in northern Shan State last year, apprehending those involved. These online fraud rings (referred to as "Kyarpyaint") continue to exploit neighboring countries, including Myanmar, through financial scams and forced labor.
The news reports were filed by Min Thihan, Min Sitt Thway, and Khur Shel, correspondents for Radio NUG.
