On January 29 in the afternoon, the brutal military junta and its subordinate PNA forces fired artillery from Nan Taung and Moe Oo, located on the western bank of Phe Khone, into Yae Pu Village in Yaung Shwe Township, according to reports by the Inle Region Human Rights Group.
Nineteen shells hit the vicinity of Yae Pu, with three shells exploding inside the village, damaging a civilian home.
Reports indicated that a total of 23 artillery shells landed and exploded in the area on January 29 alone.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 2. One Civilian Killed, Eight Injured Due to Military Junta Attacks in Hlaing Bwe District

The Karen National Union (KNU) has reported that the SAC military targeted civilians in the Kaw Thoo Lei-administered Hlaing Bwe District, using both heavy artillery and airstrikes, resulting in one civilian death and eight injuries.
On January 24 at around 9:30 p.m., the SAC forces fired heavy artillery at Wain Kyun Village in Thawttee Township, injuring two civilians, including a 16-year-old girl, Ma Win Pa Pa Thein, and Maung Aung Myint Myat.
Additionally, on January 27 at 11:40 a.m., an airstrike targeted Nyaung Pin Gyi Village, injuring four civilians, including a child, while damaging two monasteries and several homes.
On January 28 at 12:35 p.m., the junta forces based in Nyaung Lay Pin launched drone strikes on Pyin Ye Village, where a 69-year-old woman, Daw San Myint, was killed by direct bomb impact.
Similarly, in Mu Township on January 27 at 7:55 p.m., two artillery shells, fired by junta troops stationed at Kone Chaung Wa, exploded in Nat Ta Lin Village, injuring a 14-year-old child and an 84-year-old elderly woman.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 3. Rescue Operation for Four Junta Soldiers Seeking to Defect in Moe Byal

In Southern Shan State's Moe Byal Township, four unarmed junta soldiers from Infantry Battalion (422) sought to defect and were rescued by local resistance forces, according to a report from the Southern Shan Local Revolution Union.
At around 1:00 a.m. on January 29, a coordinated rescue mission was carried out by the Southern Shan Local Resistance Forces (SSLRU), Battalion 1008 (SSRY), and Phoenix Battalion to secure their extraction.
The four soldiers were reportedly conscripted through unlawful recruitment by the junta and had been transferred from Infantry Battalion (508) to Infantry Battalion (422).
It was revealed that these soldiers had contacted the resistance forces on January 25, and the rescue mission commenced on January 26.
The defecting soldiers are now in a secure location, with assurances that they will be granted freedom to make independent choices regarding their future. The resistance forces encouraged other unlawfully conscripted junta members to defect and join the civilian resistance.

On January 29 in Yangon, protesters staged a satirical demonstration mocking Xi Jinping, the President of China, for his support and cooperation with the military junta led by Min Aung Hlaing, who is responsible for ongoing brutal violence against civilians.
The demonstration involved symbolic representations using bear figures to criticize China's political interference in Myanmar, its dominance over Myanmar’s economy, and its collusion with the junta's oppressive acts.
The protest was reportedly organized by the San Chaung Main Strike Column (SC Strike) and Yangon Revolution Union (4).
This movement condemned China's complacency toward the junta's atrocities, including brutal suppression of civilians, targeted airstrikes using military helicopters on elderly populations, children, and IDP camps, and urged China to adopt a just and ethical stance as a responsible neighboring country supporting the rights of the Myanmar people.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 5. AA Takes Measures to Ensure Road Safety in Rakhine State Under Its Control

The Arakan Army (AA) and the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government have been working to ensure road safety in towns and villages under AA control in Rakhine State, according to the regional media outlet APM.
AA soldiers and members of DLEPS are monitoring major routes to prevent traffic accidents, enforcing specific safety measures. These measures include encouraging motorcyclists to wear helmets, use chin straps, and avoid carrying more than two people per motorcycle. Traffic signs have also been erected at intersections and highways to remind the public of rules that must be observed, warning that violations will result in penalties.
Amid fierce battles aimed at eradicating the influence of the junta in Rakhine State, AA, together with the Revolutionary Government and the general public, is actively engaged in reconstruction and development work in newly liberated areas.

An officer from the SAC’s 531st Battalion, stationed in Pekon, Kayah State, defected to the Karenni National Defense Force (KNDF) with weapons, KNDF has reported.
The defection took place on January 27, when the officer fled to the KNDF with an MA-3 assault rifle and additional equipment.
The defecting officer, who had served for over 40 years, reportedly fled because he no longer wished to participate in unjust actions or continue serving under the oppressive junta.
The KNDF stated that the officer is being well protected and encouraged other junta personnel to defect to the side of the people instead of continuing to serve the interests of the oppressive regime.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 7. 154 Civilians, Including 22 Children, Killed in Shan State from January 1, 2024, to January 29, 2025

According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), 154 civilians, including 61 women and 93 men, were killed by the junta in Shan State from January 1, 2024, to January 29, 2025. The casualties included 22 children under the age of 18.
Out of the total fatalities, 97 people were killed by junta airstrikes, making it the deadliest form of attack.
On January 27, 2025, at 2:18 p.m., an airstrike carried out by the junta in Ward No. 2, Kyaukme, dropped bombs that hit the local night market. The attack resulted in the death of local resident Myo Myint Htwe, who was decapitated by the blast.

The commander of the 2nd Brigade of the PSLF/TNLA and the district commander of the Kyaukme District Special Strike Force of the People's Defense Force (PDF) inspected recently liberated areas, according to a statement from the Kyaukme PDF.
Brigadier General Tar Khyaw Myo of the TNLA and District Commander Ko Kaung of the Kyaukme PDF visited Gotet Bridge in Naung Cho Township to conduct an inspection.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 9. Man Severely Injured by Landmine Explosion in Muse

In Nam Hwe Village, Muse Township, under the control of TNLA Brigade 1 in northern Shan State, a man sustained severe injuries after stepping on a landmine, TNLA reported.
The incident occurred on January 27 at around 7:43 a.m. when 30-year-old U Hein Zaw Htay triggered a remaining landmine planted by the junta while walking across farmland.
As a result of the explosion, he lost his left leg and suffered serious injuries to his body and both hands.
Earlier, on January 1, another landmine explosion injured a man near Pan Lon Village in Muse Township while he was gathering firewood.
