Radio NUG

On March 15, ULA/AA spokesperson U Khine Thuka announced that 21 illegal fishermen were apprehended in Rakhine waters. They were captured over 10 kilometers beyond the maritime boundary line, less than a kilometer from the Rakhine coastline.

According to the statement, these fishermen were aware of repeated warnings issued by Bangladeshi authorities but deliberately ignored them and continued engaging in illegal fishing operations multiple times.

With the intention of maintaining friendly relations between the two neighboring nations, it has been decided that the fishermen will be released without imposing any penalties.

ULA has noted that illegal fishing and unauthorized entry into Rakhine waters despite repeated warnings from Bangladeshi authorities pose a serious issue. Such activities threaten the livelihoods of lawful fishermen operating in both Bangladesh and Rakhine under legal frameworks.

To address and resolve the problem of illegal cross-border fishing, collaboration between Bangladesh and Rakhine is expected, aiming for an effective and lasting solution, the statement added.

The hearing was presided over by three female ICC judges, while Duterte was represented by his close associate and legal counsel, Mr. Salvador Medialdea.

The session was a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to formally prosecute Duterte for crimes against humanity allegedly committed between November 1, 2011, and March 19, 2019, in the Philippines.

If sufficient evidence is confirmed, the case will be transferred to the trial chamber, where the judicial process will proceed to the next stage of formal prosecution, according to the presiding judge. The next hearing, focused on validating the charges, is scheduled for September 23.
