๐ฉ๐ฉ 7. Taungtha Pa-Ah-Pha Urges Residents to Refrain from Celebrations During 1386 Thingyan
April 5 – Radio NUG
The People’s Administrative Body of Taungtha Township, under the National Unity Government (NUG), has issued a directive urging the public to refrain from organizing Thingyan water festivals, musical events, or revelry during the 1386 Myanmar New Year holidays.
The announcement cites the need to honor fallen revolutionary fighters, victims of airstrikes and arson attacks, displaced civilians, and earthquake survivors. It also emphasizes the constant threat of air raids by the military junta as justification for the ban on public festivities.
The directive references the powerful earthquake that struck on March 28, which caused widespread damage across the country. In solidarity with victims, the NUG has designated April 13–20 as a national week of mourning and reflection.
As such, Taungtha’s People’s Administrative Body urges local residents to refrain from constructing festival stages or pavilions, hosting loud musical events or water-throwing celebrations, and using amplifiers during the Thingyan period.
The above news items were reported by Min Sitt Thway and Khur Shel, correspondents for Radio NUG.
