April 7 – Radio NUG
On April 7, the Laukkai Reconstruction Department announced that the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) had provided compensation of MMK 5 million per household for a total of 309 homes destroyed during clashes under Operation 1027, amounting to a total disbursement of MMK 1,545,000,000.
While there were numerous other cases of damage, compensation was limited to those whose houses were completely destroyed. For eligible recipients who are currently displaced or living away from the area, arrangements have been made for them to claim the funds at the respective administrative offices with recommendations from local administrators and township officials, according to a responsible officer from the Kokang administration.
“We’ve received the money. But this isn’t the answer. What we really care about is what kind of administrative model Laukkai will follow in the future. Kokang authorities haven’t made that clear to us yet,”
a local resident told People’s Spring.
