๐ฉ๐ฉ 1. NUG Ministry of Human Rights Issues Statement on the Aerial Bombing of Ohtain Twin Village School in Depeyin Township by the Terrorist Military Junta Using a Jet Fighter
May 13
On May 12, 2025, at approximately 9:35 a.m., while children were preparing to sit for their academic advancement examinations, the terrorist military junta launched a deliberate aerial attack on a school in Ohtain Twin Village, Depeyin Township, Sagaing Region. The assault was carried out by a jet fighter from the Meiktila-Shante Air Force Base, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Human Rights of the National Unity Government (NUG).
The statement revealed that the bombing, which targeted the school without any active armed clashes occurring in the area, resulted in the deaths of 22 civilians. Among the deceased were volunteer teachers and students ranging from Grade 2 to Grade 11. More than 40 others were injured (investigations are still ongoing to confirm the exact number).
U Aung Myo Min, NUG Minister of Human Rights, also condemned the atrocity, stating:
“Twenty people, including students, lost their lives in the airstrike carried out by the terrorist military junta on a school in Ohtain Twin Village, Depeyin Township. Over 40 others were injured.
In the midst of war, children are striving to learn however they can, driven by their desire for education. Is this their crime?
Is it a crime for innocent children to pursue education?
The junta deliberately and brutally targeted a place of learning, bombing schoolchildren with ruthless intent.
Let there be no ambiguity: this is the terrorist military junta’s crime. The public must understand this clearly and unequivocally.”
The Ministry of Human Rights reaffirmed its strong commitment to promoting equality, justice, and peace for all citizens, and pledged to hold the military junta accountable for its crimes. The ministry stated it will continue to work tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure accountability for all human rights violations committed by the junta.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 2. Junta’s Ceasefire Announcements Are Loosely Worded and Designed to Be Easily Broken, Says Government Spokesperson
May 13
U Nay Phone Latt, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office of the National Unity Government, remarked during Press Briefing 10/2025 that the ceasefire declarations made by the junta are insincere and deliberately crafted without binding commitments, allowing them to be easily violated.
“The junta’s so-called ceasefire declarations lack strict provisions and are intentionally designed to be easily broken.
Genuine ceasefires require clear codes of conduct, agreed-upon rules, and compliance mechanisms.
These codes and agreements must be monitored and verified by international observers to ensure adherence.
Moreover, any violations must be followed by accountability measures to address breaches of the agreed-upon conduct,” he said.
He also pointed out that when external powers pressure stakeholders into peace talks or agreements, such actions can exacerbate internal divisions and tensions among ethnic resistance groups.
