๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 1. KNU Captures Baw Lay Doe Military Camp near the Thai-Myanmar Border

May 23
Radio NUG

The Karen National Union (KNU) has announced that on May 23, 2025, at around 5:00 PM local time, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) under Brigade 6, along with the Karen National Defence Organization (KNDO) and People's Defence Force (PDF), launched a coordinated assault and successfully seized control of the SAC’s Baw Lay Doe (Byar Di) military base, located near Baw Lay Doe village in Kawkareik Township, Dooplaya District, within the Kawkareik administrative region of the KNU.

The Baw Lay Doe base was previously occupied by junta forces who had crossed into the KNU-administered area and stationed troops near the Thai-Myanmar border. The attack and seizure occurred earlier that same day during the morning hours.

According to the KNU’s administrative demarcations, Waw Lay Town—where Baw Lay Doe village is situated—is part of Kawkareik Township in Dooplaya District.

Following the base’s capture, at approximately 1:00 PM, junta air forces conducted aerial bombardments in the vicinity of Baw Lay Doe, a Karen military source reported.

The Baw Lay Doe base functioned as a forward outpost supporting the strategic Waw Lay and Ukrit bases. Its fall now facilitates easier access for resistance forces to launch further assaults on the Seik Bo Boe military base, which is situated along the Myawaddy–Waw Lay road near Seik Bo Boe village.

The KNU has previously seized most of the SAC’s outposts within Brigade 7’s operational region along the border. It is now continuing its offensive operations into Brigade 6 territory, with ongoing attacks against border camps. Despite the fall of the Baw Lay Doe base, SAC forces continue to control several strategic positions, including Waw Lay, Seik Bo Boe, Wamee Htar, Ukrit, Kane Lay, and Maw Kee camps.

These BLDF fighters:

  • Operated under the command of the People’s Defense Force – Mandalay during the Shan-Man Campaign, which lasted for nearly six months
  • Also served in Tamu Region, carrying out missions under the coordination of the National Unity Government (NUG) and Military Region No. 1 Command

According to BLDF, their troops returned to their home base areas in Upper Myanmar, bringing back invaluable military experience and hard-earned lessons from real combat engagements during those operations.

Tragically, during these operations:
