๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 1. Tamoo District PDF and allied resistance groups sent an open letter to India’s Prime Minister, urging action against Asan Rifles for killing PDF fighters

May 29

Three revolutionary groups based in central Myanmar have sent an open letter to India’s Prime Minister, requesting that legal action be taken against the Asan Rifles, the armed group responsible for killing PDF members in Tamoo District.

The letter, signed and released in Burmese, English, and Hindi, was jointly issued by:

The Committee for Coordination and Unity of People’s Resistance Forces against Dictatorship – Mandalay

Sagaing Division Strike Forces

Magway Region Revolutionary Forces Network.

According to the letter, ten members of the Tamoo District People’s Defense Force (PDF–Pa Ka Pha), which operates under the National Unity Government (NUG), were captured and brutally executed by the Asan Rifles near Kamakyi Village in Tamoo District, Sagaing Region, close to the Myanmar–India border, on May 14. Their bodies were reportedly returned to the Tamoo PDF on May 16. These details have been confirmed through independent media outlets and direct accounts from local contacts, the resistance groups stated.

The letter also referenced Statement No. 4/2024 issued on May 20 by the NUG Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reaffirming the unified stance of these allied resistance forces.

The letter strongly urges the Indian government to investigate the killing of the ten PDF members in an impartial, transparent manner and to hold the perpetrators accountable under both Indian domestic law and relevant international legal frameworks. Four main demands were submitted with particular emphasis.

The appeal is grounded in a spirit of mutual respect and democratic principles, with the intent of preserving peaceful coexistence, dignity, and stability across border regions. The groups expressed their belief that such action, taken in good faith and based on shared values, would foster long-term peace and trust.

Finally, the open letter emphasized that India, as a leading democracy, has a responsibility to engage constructively with neighboring nations in critical matters. The resistance groups expressed hope and confidence that the Indian government would treat their appeal with the seriousness it deserves and respond accordingly.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 2. Over 200 PDF fighters killed in combat in 2024 alone; death toll surpasses 1,000 over four years, says NUG Minister Dr. Tu Khawng

May 29

Dr. Tu Khawng, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation under the National Unity Government (NUG), has stated that more than 200 members of the People’s Defense Force (PDF–Pa Ka Pha) were killed in combat during 2024 alone, bringing the total death toll over the past four years to more than 1,000.

He said the following on May 29:

“Online, people often only see negative news about the PDFs or the so-called 'three-letter groups'. But on the ground, these people are sacrificing their lives. Their lives are not easy. According to military reports, over 200 PDFs have fallen in combat in just 2024, and over 1,000 in total over the past four years. Up to this day, it is still they who are on the front lines, confronting the enemy face-to-face.”

He added that PDF fighters are currently engaged in urban takeover operations and camp seizure offensives.

“They operate daily under constant risk of aerial bombardment, often moving with their lives packed on their backs. It’s a grueling, relentless situation. They’re also working tirelessly to meet the demands of revolutionary fundraising. We hope everyone will understand and forgive any shortcomings,” Dr. Tu Khawng said.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 4. KNLA Captures Kanelay Military Camp on the Thai–Myanmar Border

May 29

The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), in coordination with allied forces, successfully seized control of the Kanelay military outpost belonging to the military junta, located along the southern Thai–Myanmar border near Myawaddy in Karen State, according to local military sources.

The assault on the junta’s Kanelay camp began on May 21 and culminated in a full capture on the night of May 28, the sources said.

On the morning of May 28, resistance forces had earlier carried out a complete annihilation attack on a junta military column of 72 soldiers that had entered Sonzemiang Village, where the DKBA headquarters is located. Later that evening, joint KNLA forces successfully seized Kanelay camp.

During the seizure, junta troops reportedly fled across the border into Thailand, abandoning a significant cache of arms and ammunition. Among the confiscated materiel were 120mm heavy artillery pieces, along with various other weaponry and munitions.

Since March, combined forces of the KNU–KNLA and People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) have been waging a coordinated offensive along the Thai–Myanmar border, targeting junta outposts. They have successfully captured military bases including Pulutu, Khaleh Dei, Takhaw Bikhwi, Mawpharthu, Thale, Mel, Mawphokae, Bladdoe, and Kanelay. According to operational records, six junta camps in the area remain to be taken.

At present, fierce clashes continue between the KNLA-led alliance and junta forces in Myawaddy, Hpa-an, Kawkareik, Kyainseikgyi, Papun, and Thandaung townships. Resistance forces report that the junta has been conducting airstrikes deliberately targeting civilians as part of its ongoing military operations.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 5. Drone Strike on Emergency-Landed Junta Helicopter in Shwegu Captured on Video

May 29

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) released footage showing a drone bomb attack on a junta helicopter that had made an emergency landing in Shwegu Township, Kachin State. The aircraft had previously come under fire during its mission to deliver reinforcements and ammunition to SAC Infantry Battalion 21 based in Bhamo.

On May 20, out of three helicopters transporting reinforcements to Bhamo, two were attacked by joint KIA-allied forces. One helicopter crashed in a forested area within Shwegu Township, while the second made an emergency landing at junta Infantry Battalion 56 in Shwegu town.

On May 21, joint forces of the KIA and Kachin PDF (KPDF) carried out a drone bombing operation targeting the emergency-landed helicopter. The attack also destroyed junta military vehicles stationed nearby to secure the aircraft.

Local sources report that the emergency-landed helicopter was rendered inoperable by the attack, which used suicide drones (explosive-laden UAVs).

In previous operations, the KIA and KPDF have used available weapons to systematically target junta aircraft. Footage had recently emerged showing a Mi-17 helicopter being struck by a suicide drone launched by resistance forces.

According to military records, the KIA and its allied forces have downed four junta helicopters and one military jet since the 2021 coup.
