Radio NUG

Although the Three Brotherhood Alliance had unilaterally declared a ceasefire in order to facilitate humanitarian relief efforts in areas affected by the recent earthquake, clashes broke out due to a military offensive launched by the junta on Naungcho, according to a statement by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA).

On the morning of May 7 at approximately 8:55 a.m., junta troops launched an offensive near Taung Hla Village, where TNLA forces were stationed. Again, on May 8 around 12:30 p.m., they launched another assault near Yar Pyin Village, resulting in further clashes.

Additionally, on May 5 and 6, the junta also attacked the TNLA base in Tharyetcho Village, resulting in exchanges of fire between the two sides.

Similarly, on the evening of May 7, a gate near Phaw Taw Village in Thabeikkyin Township, Mandalay Region, was bombed. The junta’s base in the area was reportedly resupplied with 85 packages of weapons and ammunition via a Y-8 military aircraft.

The Brotherhood Alliance—comprising the TNLA, MNDAA (Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army), and AA (Arakan Army)—had initially announced a ceasefire throughout April to support victims of the earthquake and recently extended it through the end of May.

While the military council also announced an extension of its own ceasefire from May 6 to May 31, the TNLA reported that junta forces have continued their offensives, including ground assaults and aerial bombings, in clear violation of the declared ceasefire.
