📌📌 1. The Guardian Publishes Leaked CCTV Footage and Prison Life Details of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and President Win Myint Amid Trial

June 18

The Guardian news agency has released CCTV footage and detailed records of daily prison life concerning detained leaders Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and former President U Win Myint, both of whom are currently facing trial in Myanmar's military-run judicial system.

According to The Guardian, the materials were leaked via the People’s Embrace, a revolutionary network. The group confirmed that the media outlet had obtained the records through its sources.

The Guardian reported that they were able to view rare images of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi inside a courtroom in Myanmar, along with records documenting her daily prison routines.

As Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s 80th birthday approaches, the publication of these images and records casts a spotlight on the life of a national leader who has been forcibly removed from the public eye.

The leaked CCTV footage is dated between August and December 2022 and includes scenes of both President U Win Myint and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi as they appeared in court during their trials.

Based on the documented prison routine, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s daily schedule reportedly runs from 4:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. Each morning, she spends over an hour attending court sessions, and in the evenings, she reportedly takes a half-hour walk inside her room as exercise.

The Guardian report further notes that the 80-year-old leader is confined in a small space in complete isolation and cut off from family and friends, a condition that could severely impact both her physical and mental health.

One record described her lunch as consisting of two portions of rice, chicken, a whole fish stew, two chocolates, and some dragon fruit. Generally, her meals are modest—fried egg for breakfast, a small portion of rice with meat or fish for lunch, and bread for dinner.

The report also highlights that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi remains respected in Myanmar both as the daughter of independence hero General Aung San and as a symbol of the nation’s struggle for democracy.

June 18

The Permanent Representative of Myanmar to the United Nations has stated that, as a result of the military coup and the military’s brutal and violent actions, the risk of human trafficking targeting women and girls in Myanmar has significantly increased.

Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun made this statement during the general debate session of the 2025 Annual Session of the UN-Women Executive Board. He highlighted that the military coup and its ensuing atrocities have deeply worsened Myanmar’s political, security, economic, humanitarian, and human rights conditions, severely eroding the rule of law. In such a climate, he said, women and girls face an escalating risk of being trafficked.

He informed the attendees that Myanmar's women and girls are enduring extreme levels of suffering due to the illegal military coup and the military’s ongoing brutality. Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun also stressed that the military is using sexual violence as a weapon of war, and that such acts have been continuously committed against women and girls throughout the period of illegitimate military rule.

The Ambassador emphasized that to ensure justice, peace, security, and a bright future for Myanmar’s women and girls, the root causes of these ongoing crises must be effectively addressed.

He further stated that ending the military dictatorship and the unlawful coup, and halting the impunity and pardons currently enjoyed by the military junta, are the only viable solutions. He urged the international community to make firm, decisive, and balanced decisions to guarantee peace, security, and equality for women and girls in Myanmar.
