๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 1. Human Rights Minister Commends LGBTIQ+ Members for Their Role in the Struggle Against All Forms of Dictatorship

June 2

Union Minister for Human Rights of the National Unity Government (NUG), U Aung Myo Min, has expressed admiration for the LGBTIQ+ community members who are contributing from various sectors, regions, and using diverse methods in the fight for equality and against all forms of dictatorship, including the military junta.

“In the month of June, annually recognized as LGBTIQ+ Pride Month — a time dedicated to honoring people of diverse gender identities and sexual orientations — we extend our deep respect to the courageous LGBTIQ+ individuals who are taking part in the movement for equality, standing up against all forms of authoritarianism, including military dictatorship, through multiple channels and from various places,” said the minister.

Currently, it is reported that in Bangkok, Thailand, Myanmar activists participating in a Pride parade raised slogans calling for the fall of dictatorship in Myanmar. Similar protest activities also took place in Yangon.

Since seizing state power through a violent coup, the military regime has arrested over 20,000 civilians and killed more than 6,000 people — among them, members of the LGBTIQ+ community have also suffered persecution and violence.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 2. Meeting Discusses Needs and Preparedness Related to Bomb Shelters and Air Defense at Ground-Level Schools

June 2

On May 31, a coordination meeting was held under the leadership of the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) Education Committee. Participants included officials from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration, and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management under the National Unity Government (NUG), along with education board representatives from various states and regions.

Teachers and education board members from these regions raised questions regarding the current needs and actions taken concerning the construction of bomb shelters and protective measures against airstrikes at ground-level schools. They also inquired about support programs that CRPH could provide.

In response, responsible officials from the relevant ministries and the Education Committee shared updates and held discussions.

The meeting was attended by the Chairperson and members of the Education Committee, regional parliament representatives, NUG Deputy Minister of Education Ja Htwe Pan, Deputy Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Dr. Ngai Tam Maung, and officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration, along with regional education boards.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 3. Deputy Health Minister Calls for Construction of Safe Hospitals

June 2

Deputy Minister for Health, Professor Dr. Khin Maung Lwin, has called for efforts to establish safe hospitals.

“As everyone is aware, the terrorist military council has been targeting our healthcare workers, who are providing medical care to resistance fighters on the frontlines, by dropping bombs from the air. In these dire circumstances, our healthcare workers are continuing their service without regard for their own safety, tending to the wounded and protecting the health of civilians. Their bravery must be acknowledged and honored,” he stated.

“This has now become a serious challenge. As airstrikes have made ground-level healthcare operations increasingly dangerous, discussions have begun about building underground hospitals to ensure both the safety of healthcare workers and the continuity of care. From this idea, the Safe Hospital, Safe Healthcare campaign was born.”

The campaign has set a fundraising target of USD 400,000 and will run from May 24 to June 30.

Details about the campaign have been published on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Health under the National Unity Government.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 4. Only USD 63.7 million out of USD 275 million requested for 1.1 million earthquake-affected people in Myanmar has been received, says UN OCHA Myanmar
June 2

UN OCHA Myanmar has stated that of the USD 275 million requested for the 1.1 million people affected by the recent earthquake in Myanmar, only around USD 63.7 million has been received so far.

“More than two months after the powerful earthquake struck Myanmar, affected families continue to struggle to rebuild their lives and face significant challenges in restoring normalcy,” the statement said.

Thousands of families displaced from their homes in Mandalay and Sagaing are still living in overcrowded and insecure temporary shelters. As the monsoon season begins, many of these makeshift camps are ill-equipped to withstand severe weather, putting affected communities at increased risk, the agency warned.

The number of people in need of humanitarian assistance in Myanmar has now reached a record high of 19.9 million, and an additional 2 million people require emergency aid in the aftermath of the earthquake, according to UN OCHA Myanmar.

The magnitude earthquake that struck Sagaing on the afternoon of March 28 claimed the lives of over 3,000 people and caused widespread destruction across urban and rural areas. Lives were lost, homes and essential infrastructure were damaged or destroyed, and livelihoods were severely disrupted.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 5. Ko Htein Lin invites the public to join a challenge in honour of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s 80th birthday
June 2

Ko Htein Lin, son of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, has invited the public to take part in a meaningful challenge to mark his mother’s 80th birthday.

“This June, in commemoration of my mother’s 80th birthday, I would like to invite you to participate in a meaningful challenge,” he said.
“I’ll be running 80 kilometres. But that doesn’t mean you have to run like me. All that matters is doing something meaningful to you. You can create your own personal challenge around the number 80—for example, running for 80 minutes a day, walking 80 laps, collecting 80 flowers, cooking 80 dishes, donating 80 books, or carrying out 80 acts of kindness, compassion, or goodwill for my mother, for Myanmar, or even for yourself.”

He added that this was more than just a sports challenge—it was a form of active tribute to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s life, sacrifices, and spirit.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s State Counsellor, has been repeatedly imprisoned by the military junta, and has dedicated her entire life to the people of Myanmar, the nation, and the cause of democracy.
