The International Crisis Group (ICG) has released a report warning that the elections planned by Myanmar’s military junta could lead to increased violence and instability.
According to the report, an election lacking broad public trust and legitimacy would not offer a solution to Myanmar’s political crisis but would instead deepen domestic political divisions and conflict.
The ICG emphasized that the international community should focus on supporting inclusive political processes involving all parties to the conflict, rather than recognizing junta-led elections as part of a legitimate political roadmap.
