๐ฉ๐ฉ 1. NUG’s Ministry of Human Rights Releases Detailed Statement on Junta’s Drone Bombing of IDP Site at Kyaukgyi Hill Pagoda near Myatshu Village
July 28
On July 26 at 10:45 AM, the terrorist military junta conducted a drone strike with three bombs targeting Kyaukgyi Hill Pagoda near Myatshu Village in Nwarhtogyi Township, Myingyan District, Mandalay Region—a location where internally displaced persons (IDPs) had taken refuge. According to the Ministry of Human Rights under the National Unity Government (NUG), the attack killed six innocent civilians, including four children, and injured six others—also comprising children and adults.
Prior to the attack, a military column of approximately 150 junta troops from Thayetkyin Air Defense Forces in Tantabin Township had advanced through Aung Chan Thar and Aung Myin Thar villages in Nwarhtogyi Township and deployed near Myatshu Village using heavy artillery.
The Ministry reports that although there were no clashes in the area on the morning of July 26, the junta forces stationed near Myatshu carried out the drone attack on Kyaukgyi Hill Pagoda, located about two miles away and serving as a shelter for displaced civilians. Elderly persons and children were among those killed.
The six civilians killed included two underage boys, two underage girls, one woman aged 40, and another woman aged 60.
In addition to the casualties, the Kyaukgyi Hill Pagoda buildings sustained damage. Over 1,000 residents from three nearby villages were forced to flee their homes to seek safety.
Despite it being the Buddhist Lent period—a sacred time for Myanmar’s Buddhist population—the military junta continues to launch deliberate attacks targeting not only civilians but also religious buildings. The Ministry of Human Rights condemned the intensifying brutality of the junta during this religious season.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the values of equality, peace, and justice for all citizens, and pledged to continue striving for full accountability and legal action against the atrocities committed by the military junta.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 3. NUG Czech Republic Representative Urges Junta Soldiers and Families to Peacefully Join the People's Embrace
July 28
U Lin Thant, the National Unity Government (NUG) representative to the Czech Republic, has urged junta soldiers and their families to act with awareness and peacefully join the embrace of the people.
He stated:
“The PDF in Mandalay has released evidence showing that the military column which had surrendered earlier in Laukkai is now being redeployed by the junta in offensives around Pathein Gyi. This means the junta is exploiting former defectors as cannon fodder. Soldiers and their families inside the junta forces should take heed of this and seek refuge with the people, where peace awaits.”
According to the NUG’s Ministry of Defense and the Central Committee for the Implementation of the People's Embrace Initiative, a total of 64 junta soldiers and police officers defected to the people’s side in February 2025 alone, coordinated with various People's Defense Forces (PDFs) and Pa Ka Pha groups.
