๐๐ 4. Public Mobilization in Gangaw Township Demands an End to Bombing Civilians with Earthquake Relief Funds
July 31
In a public mobilization event held at a location in Gangaw Township, the Letpan Taung Main Strike in collaboration with the Women Alliance Burma (WAB) staged a protest demanding an end to the use of earthquake relief donations for bombing civilians.
Following the earthquake in Sagaing Region in March, it is reported that more than USD 100 million in international aid has been allocated for disaster response. If the military junta had no reliable income streams or access to foreign currency, the most immediate and substantial source of U.S. dollars would likely be earthquake relief funds.
Thus, the protest aimed to alert the international community not to trust or support the military junta, which continues to attack civilians, and called for global solidarity in delivering the following messages:
- Stop bombing civilians with earthquake relief funds
- Earthquake aid is meant to help survivors, not kill them
- International assistance should not be used to harm the people
- Suspend aviation fuel supplies to the military junta
The event was jointly organized by the Letpan Taung Main Strike and Women Alliance Burma (WAB) to convey these urgent demands from the people.
Since the March 28 Sagaing earthquake, the international community has provided the junta with significant financial assistance, materials, and technical support, much of which the regime has misappropriated or exploited for military purposes.
