The Union Prime Minister, Man Win Khaing Than, stated in his address at the 37th Anniversary Ceremony of the National League for Democracy (NLD) that the ongoing revolution is a historic battle between Federal Democracy and a fascist dictatorship.

He also highlighted the party’s efforts for democracy and its role in the ongoing revolution.

In his speech, the Prime Minister shed light on the history of the NLD, which emerged from the 1988 “8888 Uprising,” and its people-centered liberal democratic ideology.

He said the NLD has stood as the strongest political force of the oppressed people, carrying the light of democracy through the darkness of military dictatorship.

He reviewed the NLD’s electoral victories in 1990, 2012, 2015, and 2020, pointing out that the party’s 82.4% landslide victory in the 2020 election reflected the people’s trust. However, he emphasized that the military coup on February 1, 2021, trampled on the people’s will.

He paid tribute to those detained, including party leaders Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint, and honored their sacrifices, while also praising the unwavering efforts of party members.

He pledged: “For the establishment of a new Federal Democratic Union, the NLD will continue to fight alongside the NUG and revolutionary forces until the military dictatorship is uprooted.”

Furthermore, he urged that throughout the journey of the revolution, the NLD will stand united with the NUG and all revolutionary forces to establish a “new Federal Democratic Nation” that fulfills the aspirations of all ethnic nationalities for peace, justice, freedom, and unity. Even if differences in views arise, they must be reconciled in unity until the military dictatorship is completely eradicated.
