🚩🚩 1. UN Ambassador: “It is time to recognize that the military junta is not a body that considers ending violence.”

October 16

It is now time for the international community to recognize that the military junta is not an entity willing to consider ending acts of violence, said Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, in his address to the global community.

He made this statement on October 15, during an interactive dialogue held at the UN General Assembly’s Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee (Third Committee) with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Volker TΓΌrk.

According to reports, Mr. Volker TΓΌrk discussed the brutal atrocities faced by the people of Myanmar as a result of the junta’s military coup and the people’s continued call for peace.

He further emphasized that Myanmar’s grave human rights situation stems from the junta’s acts of violence and the systemic impunity enjoyed by perpetrators of these crimes.

The High Commissioner’s report documented the extensive harm suffered by civilians and highlighted that the number of civilian deaths continued to rise throughout the year, due to the junta’s increased airstrikes and bombings on civilian populations.

Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun explained to the participants that the junta’s air and artillery assaults had destroyed countless civilian homes and essential infrastructure, leaving schools, hospitals, and displacement camps unsafe and under constant attack.

He stressed that the inhumane junta shows no compassion for human life and continues to violate international law and international humanitarian law, committing ongoing war crimes and crimes against humanity.
He further stated that the junta has failed to respect or comply with both the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus and UN Security Council Resolution 2669.

“Given these realities,” the Ambassador concluded, “the international community must acknowledge that the junta has never been—and will never be—a body that considers ending acts of violence.”

πŸ“ŒπŸ“Œ 2. UN Ambassador: “It is tragic that resource-rich Myanmar ranks fifth globally in food insecurity.”

October 16

Although Myanmar is a resource-rich nation, it is tragic that it now ranks fifth in the world for food insecurity, said Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun.

He made these remarks during a session of the UN General Assembly’s Second Committee (Economic and Financial Committee), at its 80th meeting, where discussions focused on poverty reduction, food security, and agricultural development.

Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun explained that the junta’s brutality, its restrictions on humanitarian aid, the increasing displacement of people, the economic collapse, and the failure of public services have all worsened poverty and food insecurity in Myanmar.

He also pointed out that armed conflict, climate change, economic instability, and demographic shifts are further hindering progress in poverty reduction and food security efforts.

He reminded the assembly that since the illegal military coup in 2021, Myanmar has been suffering the devastating consequences of this unlawful takeover.

According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Myanmar’s poverty rate has soared from 24.8% in 2017 to 49.7% in 2023.

In Yangon Region, the country’s largest and most economically vital area, the poverty rate climbed dramatically from 10% in 2017 to 43% in 2023, marking a record-breaking increase, according to the UNDP.

Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun emphasized that to achieve sustainable development, poverty eradication, and food security, Myanmar must first have peace and stability.
Therefore, he urged the international community to reject the junta’s deceitful and manipulative schemes, to end military dictatorship, and to support the Myanmar people’s determination to establish a Federal Democratic Union that will restore peace and prosperity.

πŸ“ŒπŸ“Œ 3. “Together for Karenni” Campaign Successfully Achieves Its Target of Two Million Baht for Karenni Defense Efforts

October 16

The organizing committee of the “Together for Karenni” campaign, which aimed to raise 2 million Baht in emergency military funding for Karenni State defense operations, announced that the campaign had successfully reached its target and expressed heartfelt gratitude to all contributors.

The campaign began on August 16 and concluded on October 15.

Khun Bee Htoo, Vice-Chairperson of the Karenni Interim Executive Council and Chairperson of the Karenni National Defense Force (KNDF), had earlier called for collective support, stressing that if Karenni forces could effectively counter the junta’s offensive operations, including drone and aerial bomb attacks, it would significantly improve the safety and security of Karenni civilians.

Through the “Together for Karenni” initiative, funds were raised for the Karenni Joint Military Command Headquarters, ensuring that all contributions were directed toward essential military needs.

The campaign committee expressed deep gratitude to all donors for helping the campaign reach 100% of its target, assuring that every contribution would be efficiently and transparently used for operations carried out by the joint resistance forces who are in genuine need.

They added that the success of the campaign would serve as moral encouragement for the brave resistance fighters on the ground who are risking their lives to protect civilians.

In response to the campaign’s success, Maw Ree, Chief of the Karenni Joint Military Command, remarked,

“The people have already fulfilled their responsibility. Now, it’s our turn to fulfill ours.”
